Bird protection in Nepal

Field research and environmental education

Since 2006, the foundation Manfred-Hermsen-Stiftung has been supporting various projects to protect biodiversity in Nepal. In order to better understand and protect the particularly diverse bird fauna and to get the population fascinated by it, we supported the two nature conservation organisations Himalayan Nature and Friends of Birds.

With our help, Himalayan Nature has established the first research and education centre in a major bird area in the east of the country. The Kosi Bird Observatory is located north of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve and covers 4 hectares of land to study biodiversity and bird migration. In addition to bird ringing and monitoring, there are conservation awareness programs, including training of bird watchers and environmental education for school classes.

Friends of Birds was able to publish the guide book "Garden Birds of Nepal" With our support and to conduct many birding tours for school children in the Kathmandu region.
