No deregulation of the European Pesticides Directive!
Petition to sign against the planned Pesticides Omnibus Bill
Pesticides kill. A meta-analysis of over 1,700 research studies has shown that pesticides have far-reaching negative effects on more than 800 non-target species in water and on land. Pesticides reduce biodiversity, are linked to causing cancer and other diseases, and endanger the air we breathe due to a decline in pollinators for oxygen-producing flowering plants.
That is why strict rules apply in the EU (Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009).
The European Commission is now planning to simplify the approval process for pesticides as part of the ‘Simplification Omnibus packages’, without any time limit or the possibility of revocation. This would restrict the right to health and a healthy environment. If this plan is implemented, it would be a disaster for biodiversity, which is already under severe pressure.
